Residence in Bratenahl, Ohio
This renovation and addition to an Arts and Crafts residence expanded the original living area with a formal entertaining space opening onto exterior gardens on three sides. The large vaulted room with 6 dormered French doors and curved copper roof becomes an almost freestanding sculptural object within the garden surrounding it. A new rotunda resolves the oblique connection from the existing house to the new construction allowing a continuous flow of circulation to the entertainment space and family room below. Through the use of similar forms and materials, the new construction interprets the architectural language of the existing house allowing a less restricted resolution to programmatic and site requirements.
